With a double degree in law and journalism, Temika chose to specialise in Family Law because of the personal connection she makes with clients. She joined Stewart Family Law in 2013 as an Associate, and became Associate Director in 2023. Having practised exclusively in family law since 2012, Temika is an Accredited Family Law Specialist, Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner and Parenting Coordinator.
Working closely with clients on personal and important issues, Temika loves the opportunity to help clients with ‘something that is so close to their hearts’. She loves talking to clients, hearing their story and their experiences, and then working with them to resolve their issues.
Temika’s most rewarding client experience has been helping grandparents get the orders they sought in relation to their grandchildren living with them after their daughter had passed away – they were so very grateful and appreciative of everything she had done.

The following are examples of matters Temika has recently worked on.
Our client came to us during an ongoing family law matter involving parenting issues with their former partner. They were seeking to have the children live with them and had already initiated proceedings in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia before engaging our firm.
Upon being engaged as their solicitor, we swiftly organised mediation between the parties. The matter was successfully resolved at mediation, eliminating the need for prolonged and costly litigation. With our involvement, what had been a costly ongoing dispute was brought to a resolution within just a few months, allowing our client to move forward with certainty and peace of mind.
Our client, in their 80s, had separated from their long-term partner. The other party had commenced property proceedings in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.
Our client had commenced the relationship with a significantly greater initial contribution. The parties largely kept their finances separate and did not have any joint accounts. Both parties had children from previous relationships who lived with the parties at various times. The parties were equally responsible for homemaking and parenting responsibilities, with our client meeting household expenses.
To strengthen our client’s position, we engaged an experienced barrister to assist in progressing the matter. Negotiations took place at Court during a procedural event, where both parties were able to engage in focused discussions. Through this collaborative approach, the matter was successfully resolved by consent on a final basis, avoiding the need for a formal determination by the Court.
Our client approached us after they had already filed an Application to Vary a Protection Order. While we became involved at a later stage of their matter, we were able to provide immediate support and representation during the Court process.
We successfully obtained an ouster order as part of a Temporary Protection Order, allowing our client and the children to remain in the former matrimonial home. The other parent was required to vacate the property and was prohibited from approaching the home or contacting our client and the children.
This outcome gave our client and the children immediate protection and stability, allowing them to remain in their home while long-term parenting arrangements were addressed. This example demonstrates how legal representation at the right time can make a significant difference for clients facing challenging circumstances.
